Salman Khan's legal case will not affect his film with Barjatyas

With the legal sword dangling over
Salman Khan's head in the 2002 hit-and-
run case which resulted in the death of a
pavement dweller, the fate about his
forthcoming films which the actor has
signed remains ambiguous. Sometime ago, Rajshri Productions had announced
a film with the star, but now with the
ensuing legal cases, will the production
house go ahead with the film with the
star playing a pivotal role? When
contacted, the official spokesperson of the production house explained that the
legal case will have no bearing on his
films. "Such cases take years to resolve.
We will definitely go forward with the
film with Salman. While the rest of the
cast has yet to be finalised, Salman is definitely on board. We are planning to
start shooting for the film next year. At
the moment, we are involved with the
pre-production work. We will make an
official announcement soon," said the
spokesperson. Breaking the myth that Barjatyas make family dramas, the
spokesperson said that the film will
revolve around romance. "People have
this notion that we make family dramas.
But all our films are based on romance ."

Rishi Kapoor not playing Dawood Ibrahim in D-Day, says director

Filmmaker Nikhil Advani has clarified that veteran actor Rishi Kapoor's
character in his forthcoming film D-Day is not modelled on underworld don Dawood
Ibrahim.

"I completely deny that Rishi ji is playing Dawood. He plays an
exiled crimelord
named Iqbal. If there are similarities to
Dawood, it can't be helped. All art
basically needs to borrow from real-life
headlines. It doesn't mean we are making
a feature film on any specific person," said Advani.

A recent report based on Rishi Kapoor's
interview to a daily claimed the actor
plays Dawood in the film.

The interview triggered a panic attack
among the film's team that is now
frantically trying to complete the post-
production while avoiding trouble from
crime syndicates.

One hears that members of the cast,
including Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and
Irrfan, were summoned a few days back
to re-dub some of their more controversial
lines.

"Why is so much being made out of one
character's resemblance to someone we
all know? I'm being asked how a director
of such emotional films as Kal Ho Naa Ho, Salaam-e-Ishq and Patiala
House can handle an action film.

"But there is so much more to D-Day than the action involving the
extrication of a
wanted criminal from Karachi. The drama
and emotions are the mainstay, not just
the action scenes," said Advani.

The director admits that the cast was
called to do some additional dubbing but
said: "The film is in live sync-sound. We
have to dub some of the lines because the
dialogues were drowned in action. That's
all."

Ranveer Singh found inner peace at Kali Ghat

Ranveer Singh had a long shooting
schedule in Kolkata for his next film Gunday . The young actor spent a
lot of time in the city and also grew fond of the
city and the people there.

"While on sets one day, a crew member
asked him if he wanted to visited the very
famous Kali Ghat temple. Ranveer's
curiosity took him to the temple that time
and somehow being present in that
temple sent him positive vibes and he found inner peace in the midst of the
busy shooting schedule. He also felt that
the place proved to be very lucky for him",
says a unit hand.

Next time around, when he was in
Kolkata for the promotion of Lootera, he insisted on re-visiting that
place. "In spite
of having packed schedules promoting
the film, Ranveer Singh made it a point to visit the place again", adds the unit
member.

Even though Ranveer is confident that the
film will do well, there is always a lot of
nervousness every actor faces as the
release date of the film comes closer.
Ranveer was of the opinion that if some
good luck is added to their efforts, the outcome will surely be positive.

Age: 27 years
Birthday: 6th July, 1985
Zodiac: Cancer
Marital Status: Single
Awards: Filmfare Best Male Debut Award

Trivia: Although he played a hard core Delhite in his debut movie, Ranveer
Singh was born and brought up in
Mumbai.

Biography: A simple boy next door, with no filmy links, Ranveer Singh is amongst
the few chosen ones who are very lucky
to end up making their debut under one
of the greatest banners in Bollywood,
none other than Yash Raj Films!

Very early in life, Ranveer had a strong
leaning towards the art of performing.
This inclination led him to work hard and
struggle towards becoming an actor,
post his return from USA, where he
completed his BA from Indiana University in Bloomington. Ranveer
realized that being an actor in an
industry, so thickly populated with the
kith and kin of Bollywood stars, was
going to be very difficult. Thence, he
persuaded his second vocation, that of a creative writer. He worked as a
copywriter with agencies like O&M and
JWT. However, Bollywood beckoned him
and to his great fortune, he got his debut
role, that of the main male lead in the
blockbuster Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) alongside Anushka Sharma.

He was again paired opposite Anushka
Sharma in Yash Raj Films' Ladies V/s
Ricky Bahl in 2011. But the film failed to
repeat the magic of Band Baaja Baaraat.
Ranveer is currently working on his next
film Lootera.

Bollywood Toons: Bhai - Then and Now

Emraan Hashmi's 'Ungli' To Release On 20th Sept!

Even though his latest movie,
Ghanchakkar, left many disappointed,
the date for Emraan Hashmi latest
innings at the box office is finally set.
His new film 'Ungli' is set to release
on the 20th of September this year. The movie is being produced by Karan
Johar and is directed by Rensil D'Silva.

One problem for the movie is that it is
going to clash with Shahid Kapoor
starrer 'Phata Poster Nikla Hero', a
source said. This might bring bad
news to the Dharma productions
camp.

The movie also stars Sanjay Dutt,
Neha Dhupia, Kanga Ranaut and
Randeep Hooda along with Emraan
Hashmi. It would be interesting to see
which movie comes out in front of the
other!

Review: Policegiri is deafening, dowdy and drudging!

Policegiri is cringe-inducing fare, writes, writes Sukanya Varma.

A cluster of Dutt's photographs from childhood with family, from
photosesion and movies merge to form his name in the opening credits
following a note of gratitude by the
makers for his cooperation in
completing the film during trying times.

Before the goodwill behind this gesture
can register, the hero makes his entry --
splashing his face with beer, mixing his
idli with beer and washing his hands
with beer because, apparently, 'Beauty
lies in the eyes of the beer holder.'

If the daftness sounds familiar it's
because the dialogues are formulated
by the same duo responsible for two
previous monstrosities of this year
(Himmatwala, Chashme Baddoor) -- Farhad and Sajid.

Immediately after a stout, dishevelled,
puffy-faced, snoozy Dutt transforms
into an uninspired version of Singham
Rathore Pandey hurling a batch of
savage goons in mid-air like freshly-
made popcorn.

As if Amar Mohile's loud-enough-to-
turn-anybody-deaf background score
isn't emphatic enough, Dutt thumps his
chest vigorously to introduce himself as
DCP Rudra, the newly transferred cop of
Nagapuram town who is 'born in Mumbai, raised in India.' He's the
proverbial cross between Shahenshah
and Chulbul Pandey, the lawman with
dubious methods but Robin Hood's
heart.

Only here the experience is akin to
watching one of those dubbed-in-Hindi
South Indian films regularly aired on
television headlined by a Bollywood
mainstream hero.

Whereas those are at least mildly
amusing, K S Ravikumar's remake of
Tamil hit Saamy is so hopelessly
timeworn, neither its jaded leading
man nor its crummy screenplay can
salvage this mess no matter how many men Dutt hurls in the sky.

What's bizarre is just how much the 53-
year-old actor resembles his Munnabhai
series filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani in
that thick moustache as he takes down
everything illicit and immoral with a
blaring chant from Bhagavad Gita playing in the background. He's miscast
in a role he could've done justice to till
all the extra kilos piled on and robbed
the Dutt of his deadliness.

Policegiri was never expected to make
sense but it's the serious lack of
charisma and the cringe it induces on
seeing him romance an almost three
decades younger Prachi Desai that
spoils its chances even further.

Even the actors playing Desai's parents
look younger than Dutt, it's like Yalgaar
all over again. Pity considering Dutt has
never shied from playing daddy to
Hrithik Roshan or Minissha Lamba in
films like Mission Kashmir and Kidnap.

Desai is purely ornamental and
relegated to dance around inane songs
like Chura ke leja, bhaga ke leja, utha ke
lena yaar.

Dutt's quirky nemesis and the villainous
poster boy of Bollywood remakes --
Prakash Raj does his usual dilated
pupils/manic laugh theatrics with a
recurring punchline -- Mere mein sur
Mohammad Rafi ka hai ki nahi power Mohammad Ali ka hai.

There's also a stale comedy track
featuring Rajpal Yadav doing his
dummy dude shtick yet again. Tacky production values (during one of
the song picturisations, Dutt and Desai
appear superimposed against a stack of
desktop wallpapers) and fatuous
showdowns make Rudra's bam-wham-
packed fight for justice seem longer than its 141 minutes running time.

At one point your head pleads louder
than Mohile's ceaseless cacophony to
grab hold of that Tiger Balm bottle on
Om Puri's (wasted in a two minute role)
desk. Plots with threadbare logic rely too
much on larger-than-life heroics to
draw its target audience in. But none of
Dutt's swagger is blustering enough to
put up with a film as deafening, dowdy
and drudging as Policegiri.

O.P. Nayyar's grandchild to enter Bollywood

Legendary music director late O. P. Nayyar's granddaughter Niharica
Raizada is all ready to enter the tinsel town with her debut film Bang
Bang Bangkok.

In the film, Niharica will be sharing the screen with Student of the
Year (SOTY) famed Sahil Anand, Namit Kahanna and Sidhant Gupta who are
the lead actors. Bang Bang Bangkok is being directed by Vikram Pradhan
and is produced under the banner of Dazzlewave Production.

Niharica is one of the leading actresses in the film.

When asked about her debut in
Bollywood, she said: "This is like a
dream come true for me. I got
music in gift from my grandfather,
but I had an inner calling for acting
for a very long time and here I am in Bollywood."

Asked about her experience
shooting for the film she said: "It
was a great joyful ride I'll say. I
was very comfortable on the sets
and I enjoyed shooting for the film.
I am really hoping that the film receives a great response."

Director Vikram Prandhan said:
"Niharica is very talented and has a
lot of positive energy in her and she
spreads it on the sets also. All the
young kids get along with each
other very well which adds a fun element to the shoot."

comedy which also stars Sabiha
Attarwala and Swati. The music of the film is done by
Bappa Lahiri.

Upset Yami Gautam Refuses Bollywood Project

The hot and happening model Yami
Gautam made a lasting impression in the
Southern Woods, through her film
'Gouravam'. Once when she was staying
in a hotel, she had a harrowing
experience of being haunted by a ghost. Keeping the incident safe in her memory,
she recounted it to director Ravi Prabhu,
who in turn made this into a movie. He
cast actress Poorna in the lead and the
film titled 'Avnu' is a great hit in
Tollywood.

After this success, the film is being
remade in Hindi. But when the makers
approached Yami to do to lead role in this
movie, she turned them down;
apparently she is upset over not being
cast in the Telugu movie, which is in fact her story.

Pakistan bans Indian Hindu- Muslim romance film

Pakistan has banned Bollywood film Raanjhanaa about the love affair of
a Muslim-Hindu couple on the
grounds that it could offend viewers in the
conservative Islamic republic, officials said
Friday.

Raanjhanaa was scheduled for release in June, but Pakistan's Film Censor Board
refused to clear it for cinema showings.

"The censor board did not clear this movie
because of its controversial story," Arshad
Ali, a senior government official and
chairman of the board, told AFP.

While a huge array of Western and
Bollywood films can be bought over the
counter on pirated DVD in Pakistan, the
censor board routinely bans productions
deemed too sensitive for cinemas. Pakistani movie distributors boycotted
Hollywood film Zero Dark Thirty about the hunt for Osama bin Laden,
who was killed
by US troops in Pakistan on May 2, 2011 to
the country's humiliating.

In 2012, Pakistan banned Agent Vinod,
India's answer to James Bond in which an
Indian secret agent thwarts Pakistani
spies from detonating a nuclear bomb in
Delhi.

In 2010, censors also refused permission
for Indian film Tere bin Laden, which poked fun at bin Laden. The board claimed
it would incite suicide attacks.

Sonu Nigam does not believe in star power

Singer Sonu Nigam, who has lent his voice to a newcomer Tanuj Veervani
for Luv U Soniyo , says only the song and credibility of the composer
matters to him,
not the actor on whom the song would be
filmed.

Tanuj is actress Rati Agnihotri's son, who
is making his debut with the film, being
directed by Joe Rajan.

"When I sang in Mast, at that time Aftab Shivdasani was also a new-comer and all
the songs were hit. So you cannot judge a
song's success by its star-cast," said the
singer in an interview here.

He added that he gives importance to
"song and music composer's credibility".

"Today songs are recorded in a hurry as
there are several deadlines to meet. There
has to be a catchy word in every song,
which is repeated again and again. A hook
word has become very important. Songs
that are made today are not long-lasting," said Sonu.

Luv U Soniyo is set to release July 26 and features Neha Hinge in the
female lead.

Anushka bonds with Aamir on the set of Peekay

Aamir Khan is quite the charming man
and Anushka Sharma can certainly vouch
for it. If sources close to the actress are to
be believed, Anushka has grown rather
fond of the actor. The two are currently
working together on Rajkumar Hirani's Peekay. What's more, it seems that the
actress also looks up to him a great deal
and of late, has been relying on him for
advice too.

John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra's films to release on the same day

Actors John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra, who had teamed up for
the hit film Dostana, will reportedly vie for the top spot at the box
office with their
respective films Madras Cafe and animated movie Planes. Both are
scheduled for an Aug 23 release.

A source confirmed the report and said:
"Priyanka's film Planes will be releasing on August 23rd with John's
Madras Cafe."

Priyanka has given voiceover for the
animated project, while John has produced
as well as acted in Madras Cafe.

2013 Mid-year report card: Bollywood's 10 best films so far

With six months gone by, some films got
a thumbs-up from the fans while others
did not either fare well at the box office.
So, we take a look at Bollywood's 10 best
films that were able to strike a chord
with the audiences.

1) AASHIQUI2:-
There were speculations about 'Aashiqui
2', since 'Aashiqui' was a blockbuster
back in 1990s. But, newcomers Aditya
Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor struck
the right chord with the audiences. The
film not just turned out to be a big grosser at the box office but the songs
and the story also worked wonders.

2) YEH JAWANI HAI DEEWANI:-
Keeping their past at bay, Ranbir Kapoor
and Deepika Padukone decided to come
together for 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'
and that's what the fans were waiting
for. A story about friendship and love got
much applause from the audiences and the crackling chemistry between the
two became the talk of the town.

3) KAI PO CHE:-
Based on Chetan Bhagat's novel,
Abhishek Kapoor's 'Kai Po Che' became
one of the biggest hits of 2013. A story
about three friends living in Gujarat, the
film touched upon their friendship and
the Godhara riots. The treatment of the film made it quite a hit with the
audiences.

4) MERE DAD KI MARUTI:-
Small budget film 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti'
turned out to be a surprise hit. With a
promising and rib-tickling storyline, the
story revolves a son who loses a car that
is a gift for his sister's wedding. With
some good performances from Saqib Saleem and Ram Kapoor, the film makes
it to our list of best films.

5) RAANJHANA:-
When relationships don't survive beyond
a week or a month, Aanand L Rai brings
the story of a lover who is almost a
devotee to the girl who he fell for as a
child. 'Raanjhanaa' tells the story of a
Hindu boy who falls for a Muslim girl and can go to any lengths to win her over.

6) SPECIAL 26:-
Heist films is not a new concept in
Bollywood but Neeraj Pandey's 'Special
26' was a class apart. it revolves around
the story of four men and how they carry
out a robbery at a jewellery shop. With
good performances from Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher, 'Special 26' makes it
to the list of good films.

7) FUKREY:-
'Fukrey' proved that a good story, no
stars and superb performances from
newcomers can guarantee success both
at the box office as well as in the hearts
of the viewers. Mrighdeep Singh Lamba's
film revolves around four jobless people who dream to achieve big.

8) BOMBAY TALKIES:-
'Bombay Talkies' is a unique film not just
in terms of concept but also in terms of
script. Four directors came together to
celebrate 100 years of cinema by telling
four different stories that speak of love,
and aspiration.

9) GO GOA GONE:-
Zombie films is a new concept in
Bollywood and directors Raj Nidimoru
and Krishna D.K give this genre a funny
turn. Touted as India's first zom-com, 'Go
Goa Gone' makes to the list for its funny
one-liners and a new concept.

10) JOLLY LLB:-
Taking a cue from the infamous 1999 hit
and run case, Subhash Kapoor's 'Jolly LLB'
is a satire on the society and the
judiciary. With a strong script and good
performances, 'Jolly LLB' makes for an
interesting watch.

How Anurag Basu finalised Priyanka Chopra for Barfi!

Anurag Basu, whose Barfi! did exceedingly well at the box office, says he
was initially confused about his lead
actress for the film.

While Ranbir Kapoor played the title role,
Priyanka Chopra was seen as autistic
Jhilmil Chatterjee and her performance
won her many awards. Illeana D'Cruz also
featured in the romantic-comedy.

"When I went to cast Priyanka Chopra, I
realised that I could not see her as my
character. I told her that I was not sure
and that we should have a three-day
workshop," said Basu.

The director was speaking at an acting
workshop - 100 years of Indian Cinema:
An actor Prepares" - held on the second
day of the ongoing 14th International
Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards.

He further said: "The first day of the
workshop was tough as Priyanka was
very formal. I asked her to hold my collar
and shout abuses at me, this loosened her
up a lot."

"I told her to see the world from my
character's eyes and everything will fall
into place. She just had to be there in the
moment," he added.

How do you usually cast for your films?

"I need to have clarity in my mind. As long
as there is clarity, I can choose my cast in
one go," he said. The director, who has directed films like Barfi!,
Life in a Metro and Gangster - A Love Story, describes the current lot
of actors as easy-going.

"All the actors of our generation are easy-
going. But all of them are different. Hrithik
Roshan is more reserved, while Ranbir and
I became great friends as we have the
same likes and dislikes. You have to
balance everything as a director," he said.

Shweta Tiwari to quit the show Parvarrish - Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi

Actress Shweta Tiwari is reportedly quitting Parvarrish - Kuchh
Khattee Kuchh Meethi and she may not join the show again.

In the show about parents-children
relationship, she plays Sweety, a mother
of two children. It took a two-year leap
last month.

The actress, who has daughter Palak from
her first marriage with actor Raja
Chaudhary, is getting married to actor
Abhinav Kohli this month and sources said
that this could be the reason behind her
quitting the show.

In the show, the actress is seen leaving for
a wedding for 10 days. . Shweta is also part of the celebrity dance
reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6.

Earlier, she featured in long running soaps Kasautii Zindagii Kay,
Kaahin Kissi Roz and Kya Hadsa Kya Haqeeqat , among others.

The top 10 leading ladies of Indian cinema

Bollywood has
witnessed an influx of
beautiful and charming
female actors, right
from its inception, who have contributed heavily in making
it hugely popular. They have charted their
own space in a largely male-dominated
industry through their great personality
both off-screen and on-screen. These
actresses had the stardom and talent to give even the men a run for their money.
Let us take a look at these iconic
actresses who over these years have
helped Bollywood evolve.

MADHURI DIXIT:-
The woman who is known as the
'dancing queen' of Bollywood is Madhuri
Dixit. And it was not only because of her
dance numbers and her inimitable
expressions but for her acting talent that
she made a mark in Bollywood. She has worked in the industry for about two and
a half decades and has played varied
characters. She has been an actor who
had a blend of beauty, personality,
unmatched dancing skills, acting talent
and a box-office pull.

MADHUBALA:-
Madhubala made a mark in Bollywood in
the days of black and white films.
However, this did not stop her beauty
from showing through. She also had fine
acting skills that made the headlines.
Mughal-e-Azam is still a film that people associate with Madhubala.
Sadly, she had a premature death. Her
absence has made an irrevocable vacancy
in Bollywood.

NARGIS:-
Nargis was the first woman to have
appeared in the legendary film-maker
Raj Kapoor's films. She has been known
for her performance in classics like
'Barsaat', 'Shree 420', and 'Chori Chori'. In
her times, she was also recognised abroad. The film that will forever be
remembered by her admirers is 'Mother
India' which released in 1957.

SRIDEVI:-
Sridevi was Madhuri's contemporary and
was the only one who had the talent to
give her some tough competition. She
was a versatile actor and this is evident
in her choice of films like Chaalbaaz,
Chandni, Mr. India, Sadma and so on.
Now she is making a comeback with the
film "English Vinglish" which is one of the
highly expected films of this year.

SMITA PATIL:-
Late Smita Patil was a woman of
substance. She did films that were
unconventional. Her acting skills are
unparalleled in the industry. She got into
the skin of her characters effortlessly. In
films like Arth, Mirch Masala and Bhumika she stood out for her acting ability.

REKHA:-
Rekha is the epitome of beauty. Her
strong personality shows through. She is
self-made. She is known for her
unmatched acting skills. She has been
very private about her personal life and
the media has learnt to respect that. She is this nation's living
legend and a force
to reckon with.

MEENA KUMARI:-
Meena Kumari mostly did tragedies and
ironically this reflected her real life. Her
personal life was tragic and she found
solace in films which were an outlet to
her inner emotions. She did a few light-
hearted films as well to which she did full justice. It has been ages
since her death
but her memory will never fade from her
audiences memories.

WAHIDA REHMAN:-
She has never been portrayed as the
glam doll in films. She did roles that had
substance and this clearly reflects her
ability to portray those characters with
perfection.

KAJOL:-
Kajol is the daughter of yesteryear
actress Tanuja. She mostly played non-
glamorous characters in mainstream
films. She is talented and a confident
actress. She is married to actor Ajay
Devgn but has still not bid adieu to films.

AISWARYA RAY BACHCHAN:-
Aishwarya is considered an embodiment
of good looks but not at the cost of her
acting abilities. She has done films like
"Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" and Devdas.
She is also the first actress of her
generation to put India on the global map. She thus has made Bollywood reach
unknown territories.
