Saajan sequel to feature young cast, to go on floors in 2014
Director Lawrence D'Souza is all set to
make a sequel of his 1991 hit film Saajan
featuring "younger star cast of known
actors" next year.
The original starred actors Sanjay Dutt,
Madhuri Dixit, besides Salman. Lawrence
did not disclose who will be replacing
these actors in the sequel, title of which
is pparently not yet finalised.
"The scripting is done. The basic idea of
the film is the same - a love triangle -
two heroes and a heroine. We want big
stars for this film. We would go with a
younger lot of known actors. We do have
few names in mind," D'Souza told PTI.
In the original film, Sanjay Dutt played an
orphan who is befriended by wealthy
Salman Khan during his childhood. As
they grow up Dutt emerges as a popular
poet under the pen name 'Sagar', while
Madhuri Dixit played the role of one of his fans. Madhuri's liking for
the poet and
Salman coming in the frame led to a love
triangle.
"I had thought of remaking the film
when people started asking me to
remake old blockbusters," Lawrence said. Lawrence intends to shoot the film in
Kashmir from next year.
Hit songs like Dekha Hai Pehli Baar, Tum
Se Milne Ki Tamanna Hai, Bahut Pyar
Karte Hain, Tu Shayar Hai, Jiye To Jiye
Kaise are among the USPs of the original
film.

Farah Khan has found a new girl for the movie.
The director launched model Deepika Padukone opposite Shahrukh Khan in
Om Shanti Om (2007), and is now planning to rope in another newcomer
for her ambitious Happy New Year. It's learnt that Farah Khan wanted a
fresh face who can act as well as dance, since the role is of a bar
dancer from Bhandup.
Apparently, almost 70 girls which include some big names auditioned
for the role. The insiders claim that it took three months for the
director to get the right girl. Happy New Year will go on floors in
September, and Farah Khan is now waiting for Shahrukh Khan's approval.
Farah even confirms that the girl is almost finalized for the film,
which also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Boman Irani.
As soon as Farah gets Shahrukh's nod she will start training the girl.

skull. We did an open surgery wherein w

Shruti Haasan's dialogues get axed
Director Nikhil Advani can breathe easy.
D-Day, his film on cross-border terrorism
about a bunch of RAW agents assigned t
bring a Dawood-like terrorist back to
India from Pakistan, was passed on
Saturday by the Censor Board. Surprisingly, the board had no qualms
regarding rantings against Pakistan but
took offence to few dialogues by Shruti
Haasan in the film. She plays a Pakistani
prostitute in the film.
Says, the director, "These are lines where
Shruti does hardcore business bargaining
with her clients. I was advised to get rid
of these dialogues to obtain a 'UA'
certificate. I happily took them off. My
apprehensions were not about what Shruti's character has to say but about th
far more important dialogues on cross-
border terrorism. I am happy to say the
Censor Board didn't touch any of those."

Aamir Khan to endorse Colgate?
In Bollywood, Aamir Khan is one of the
very few people who know the art of
successful reinvention. That's why it
becomes needless to say that he is very
aptly known as the true blue
'Perfectionist'.
As it is observed, besides the film
fraternity, Aamir continues to be a red-
hot property even in the ad world. This
time round, according to Star Report Fully Bollywood Magazine's
reliable sources, Aamir has now been signed up as the brand
ambassador of Colgate. The official announcement of the same is
awaited.

Shatrughan Sinha gets emotional while watching daughter Sonakshi in Lootera
Vikramaditya Motwane's period romance Lootera made veteran actor
Shatrughan Sinha break down for a while after he watched his daughter
Sonakshi's performance in the film, which also features Ranveer Singh.
A proud father Shatrughan stated, "When Sonakshi did Son Of Sardaar
she looked every inch a Sardarni. In Lootera, she looks completely
Bengali. I don't want people to say, Apni beti ke baarey mein shuroo
ho gaye But the fact is I've faced the camera for 45 years, and I know
when
I see an extraordinary performance. I couldn't see my daughter
Sonakshi in Lootera. I only saw this ill suffering girl called Pakhi
on screen. And my heart melted." The affectionate father even called
up his daughter when he watched Sonakshi's character Pakhi dying of
tuberculosis in the film.
The actor was a little bit embarrassed while saying, "Ab kya Karen? Ek
baap toh baap hi hota hai. The way Sonakshi has portrayed the
bronchial cough is amazing. It was so realistic that I got scared. My
girl
has never been exposed to the harsh realities of life. Where did she
get to know about such pain suffering, hurt and humiliation?"
Shatrughan said more on the scene where Pakhi urged Ranveer's
character Varun to visit her for once, "Rejection is a terrible
humiliation. I never realized how much damage it can do to a girl's
self-esteem until I saw Sonakshi's performance in that sequence where
Pakhi begs with the man she loves to visit her the next day, or the
day after or the day after that...My heart reached out to the
character. When a girl faces such crippling rejection, she can do
anything. That scene made me realise how callous and careless men can
be, and how careful they need to be when dealing with a woman's
heart."

Will Katrina meet Neetu Singh on her birthday after Ranbir- Deepika kiss?
Today is Ranbir Kapoor's mom, actor Neetu Singh's birthday. The proud
mom turns 55 today, and has already got her birthday gift from her
son. Ranbir Kapoor won the IIFA best actor award for Barfi. What else
can a mother want from his son on her birthday?
However, Neetu Singh will obviously be wishing for a suitable bride
for son Ranbir. Buzz is that Ranbir Kapoor reportedly shares a special
bond with Katrina Kaif. If rumours are to be believed, the two want to
keep their special bond a secret, especially from the prying eyes of
the media.
Katrina was clicked having what looked like a family dinner with
Ranbir Kapoor and his mother Neetu Singh recently. Rumours and
expectations doing the rounds indicate that either Kat will wish Neetu
over a hearty telephonic conversation or she will meet her up, if she
can.
But in a twist in their tale was added on Saturday night, when Ranbir
Kapoor reportedly kissed Deepika Padukone at a private party. If
reports are to be believed, this was apparently the reason that miffed
Kat, who then decided to give IIFA green carpet a miss.

Not Katrina, but Parineeti or Ileana for Salman Khan!
While Sooraj Barjatya had already finalised Salman Khan for his next

her name once the dates and other details are worked out."
It can now be revealed that two heroines- Parineeti and Ileana D'Cruz

This is not Salman's first time with Sooraj as he has worked with him
in super-hits like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun and Hum Saath

Deepika Padukone Declares Her Love for Ranbir Kapoor!
Deepika Padukone has just given the
biggest hit of her career with her former
beau Ranbir Kapoor. Their 'Yeh Jawaani
Hai Deewani' has nearly touched the 200-
crore figure at the box office and her
chemistry with Ranbir is being touted as one of the reasons for its
mega success.
It is no secret that she is very fond of her
ex boyfriend-turned-good friend Ranbir
but at the IIFA Awards held at The
Venetian Macao, the actress stunned the
packed audience when she declared 'I
love you and miss you' on stage!
Looking absolutely smashing in a
shimmering gown, Deepika promoted
'Chennai Express' with co-star Shah Rukh
Khan at the awards. She also gave a
fabulous performance of a medley of her
hit numbers from 'Cocktail', 'Race 2' and 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'.
The surprise came when the award of the
Best Jodi was announced. Deepika and
Ranbir won the trophy for 'Yeh Jawaani
Hai Deewani'. The surprising aspect was
that the awards were actually held to
honour films of 2012 while 'YJHD' was released a few weeks ago, in 2013!
However, this little detail hardly
mattered as Deepika walked onto the
stage to receive the award sans Ranbir
who was unfortunately missing in action
at IIFA this year. As soon as she was
given the award, Deepika made her speech where she mentioned the film
and thanked Ranbir for all the support he
had given her and complementing her so
well on screen. She ended it with 'Love
you Ranbir and miss you'!
Whether she meant it casually as a way
to end her acceptance speech or if there
was something to be read between the
lines is something only the gorgeous
actress can tell!

Ranbir Kapoor to turn superhero in Ayan Mukerji's next
While there's been a lot of
speculation regarding
Ayan Mukerji's next after
the success of 'Yeh Jawani
Hai Deewani', TOI has
learnt that the director's close buddy, Ranbir Kapoor, will star in
his upcoming film,
much like he did in Ayan's earlier
projects.
The more interesting piece of news
however is that Ranbir will play a
superhero in this yet-untitled project,
making him the next actor after Hrithik
Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan to essay
characters with superpowers on celluloid.
Not just Ranbir, the film will present a
challenge for Ayan too as he will be
graduating from the likes of Wake Up Sid
and Yeh Jawani... to a much less explored
genre. What's more, he will be up against
big-budget, action and special effects packed money spinners such as Krrish and
RA.One that have already been there and
done that.
Ayan, we hear, is currently on holiday in
Barcelona, where he is busy mulling over
a suitable script for his ambitious
venture. The plan is to meet up with
Ranbir as soon as he returns to Mumbai to
chalk out details of the project.
A source close to the development said,
"Ranbir trusts Ayan's abilities. He has
enjoyed working with the filmmaker so
far, and is looking forward to their next
outing together. This film will be
mounted on a much bigger scale than their earlier projects."
Apparently, with a movie high on stunts
and daredevilry (the kind only caped
crusaders are capable of), the idea is also
to capitalise on the huge fan following
that Ranbir enjoys among children.
Now whether Ranbir will leap as long and
fast as Krrish or have blue eyes like G.One
or fare even better, only time will tell.
Ayan and Ranbir both remained
unavailable for comment.

A source close to the development said,
"Ranbir trusts Ayan's abilities. He has
enjoyed working with the filmmaker so
far, and is looking forward to their next
outing together. This film will be
mounted on a much bigger scale than their earlier projects."
Apparently, with a movie high on stunts
and daredevilry (the kind only caped
crusaders are capable of), the idea is also
to capitalise on the huge fan following
that Ranbir enjoys among children.
Now whether Ranbir will leap as long and
fast as Krrish or have blue eyes like G.One
or fare even better, only time will tell.
Ayan and Ranbir both remained
unavailable for comment.
Farah Selects Debutant Actress For Happy New Year; Awaiting SRK’s Approval
There has been a lot of speculation over
who is going to be the leading lady
opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan in his
next film Happy New Year. After a relentless search of many months by
director Farah Khan, reportedly, now she
has finally zeroed on an actress.
Farah and SRK had been on the lookout
for a long time and now the girl that
Farah has found is a fresh face. The
debutant actress chosen by Farah is
apparently pending SRK's approval. Shah
Rukh will have a look at her screen tests before finalizing her as the
leading lady
in the film.
There have been numerous actresses
considered for this role, right from
Deepika Padukone to Sonakshi Sinha,
and even Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif,
but none of them were found suitable for
the character. Television actress Jennifer Winget too was considered
for the role.
However, the finalized name of the
leading lady is still under wraps!
The SRK-Farah duo have been very quiet
on the issue but one can expect the lead
lady to be finalized in another fortnight.
The film Happy New Year is expected to
go on floors by September and will star
Abhishek Bachchan and Boman Irani too.

"Ranveer and I are opposites" - Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi Sinha is a fabulous lunch date.
She's charming, neurotic, with a whole-
body laugh, which she unleashes when
she's either genuinely amused or nervous.
Both on and off screen, she comes across
as self-deprecating and utterly relatable, a girl you might know. But there's a
magnetism, a kind of hyper-real quality
about her that makes her a compelling
presence.
In her short career, it wouldn't be wrong
to say that Sonakshi has had a dream run. With a 90 per cent hit rate
at the box-
office and five films in the 100-crore club,
she's one of the biggest success stories in
recent times. But she hasn't had it easy.
What with critics bashing her for her
movie choices and fashionistas constantly picking on her weight and sartorial
preferences.
But Sonakshi couldn't be bothered. Amid
all this loose talk, the young stunner is a
picture of
normalcy. She knows how to detach and 'ignore the bull@#$%'. Over an hour and
a half filled with easy laughs, a few
moments of female-bonding and a
goodbye hug later – what started off as
an interview felt more like a girls' day
out. Witty, warm and awfully honest, Sonakshi opens up about her career
choices, dealing with negativity, resolute
morals and more.

Shahrukh turns saviour for Deepika Padukone
Though Deepika Padukone hails from South India, she isn't as well
versed in Tamil as her native language. Moreover, though in CHENNAI
EXPRESS she is shown as a Tamilian, her character is required to
incorporate only the accent while speaking in Hindi. Once she began
work on the film, it wasn't easy for her to begin with as the thin
line between authenticity
and humour had to be kept intact. This is where Shahrukh came to her rescue.
''Shahrukh could see that Deepika may struggle to get her accent
right. In order to help her, he showed her a few videos on different
ways that Tamil people speak in Hindi. He also pointed out that when
that happens, the grammar changes a little bit as well. Especially for
those few South Indians who are not comfortable in Hindi, there are
some apparent mistakes. Deepika could relate to this as well since she
had moved from Bangalore to Mumbai a few years back and had to soon
adapt to the Hindi flavour,'' informs our source.
Says Deepika, ''Yes, this had happened with me in real life. I used to
mess up on grammar in my earlier days. Shahrukh was a good help though
during the making of CHENNAI EXPRESS. His guidance helped me. After
that I didn't have to rehearse. I went on the shoot, said my first
dialogue and it all became a part of me. Today you can give me any
dialogue in Hindi and I will speak it in true Tamil accent.''
We look forward to seeing that when the film releases all over on 8th August.

Katrina Kaif is very attractive, want to work with her: Siddharth Malhotra
He has immaculate style
sense, loves spouting Bollywood
dialogues and is fully aware of the
challenges he has to face as an 'outsider'
in the showbiz industry to make the cut
with his audience. Even though Siddharth Malhotra continues to dominate
headlines for bagging interesting movie
offers, the actor makes an earnest effort
to remain grounded.
Star Report Fully Bollywood Magazine you why his fan base will
expand exponentially and what makes
actress Katrina Kaif so special in his life.
Yes, I'm an outsider: It is a fact that
ruling the box office, and bagging much
sought after awards comes easily to the
star kids. Siddharth Malhotra, who
assisted Karan Johar in Shah Rukh Khan-
starrer 'My Name is Khan', before making his Bollywood debut in 'Student of the
Year', admits being the proverbial
'outsider' who is all set to take Bollywood
by storm. "I call myself an outsider
because in Mumbai I don't have anything
to fall back on. So if things don't work in my favour, I will have to
pack up and
come back to Delhi. That's why I want to
make concerted efforts to carve a space
for myself in Bollywood."
Loud and boisterous Punjabification in
Bollywood is passe: In 'Ghanchakkar'
Vidya Balan played a loud and boisterous
Punjabi housewife who is happy and

Punjabi-ish avatar less enjoyable and more demeaning? "Yes, and it is just so

notions of Delhi boys who are expected
to be rowdy and loud. We coming in will
definitely change that perspective.
Interestingly, everyone I have met so far have said, 'You don't look
like a typical
Delhi boy because you aren't loud. And
that opinion, I feel, is weird.' But I hope I
will change it," he says.
Is Siddharth dating someone? The actor

manages to steer clear from dating
rumours, a strategy many celebrities
resort to for publicity. "Maybe I'm
keeping secrets," he laughs, adding, "But the fact is that it is a

when I should be concentrating on the
projects that are coming way. There is a
lot to do and I don't want to lose focus in

on having Katrina Kaif riding it as a pillion passenger. "Katrina Kaif is very

sharing the screen space with Katrina.
"I'm really interested in doing a film with Katrina Kaif as she is a

With Siddharth admitting his strong

I never went away: Madhuri Dixit
Actor Madhuri Dixit, who ruled the 80's
and 90's, feels that contrary to the
perception that her contemporary
heroines are faded in oblivion, they are in
fact going strong even today. Madhuri,
whose item song 'Ghagra' with Ranbir Kapoor topped the charts recently, is one
of the judges in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa and has two
films, in
her kitty.
Even though actors Shah Rukh Khan,
Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar
and Ajay Devgn, all in their 40's, are
active in Bollywood even today, heroines
who starred opposite them in their
heydays either faded away from arc lights or are content playing
character roles. But
Mads believes it is not the case.
"It is great to see all actors up there. They
all have worked hard. Juhi Chawla, Kajol,
Sridevi all are doing wonderful work
today. One should not generalise that
actresses of our times are not around, it
is not right." She adds, "All these ladies are doing good work. They are going
strong. They are making their own space."
Even after her marriage with US-based Dr
Shriram Nene in 1999, Madhuri continued
to act in films. "I have always worked.
Even after getting married and going
away, I did Devdas, Lajja, Pukar, Hum
Tumhare Hai Sanam, Aaja Nach Le and Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. I did a lot of work after
marriage. So it was not that I left and
went away. I have always been here," she
said.
Madhuri dismissed reports that she will
be performing a special song in Sanjay
Leela Bhansali's upcoming film, Ram
Leela. "Nobody has approached me for
the song. And there is no talk. I don't
know where these stories are coming from."

Priyanka Chopra’s beach indulgence
The actress has purchased

popular Baga Beach in Goa Priyanka Chopra has
bought herself a bungalow
in North Goa, just off Baga Beach, a popular tourist destination.
While the purchase was made quite some
time ago, Priyanka had kept it under
wraps, till now. The bungalow has a
couple of rooms and a small lawn, among
other amenities. The interiors have been
done up nicely, under Priyanka's supervision.
Apparently, this is where the Chopras
would stay whenever they visited Goa.
And Priyanka, who is quite a beach
person and loves holidaying in places like
Koh Samui and Phuket (Thailand), took a
shine to the property, moreso for its proximity to Baga Beach.
A source told TOI: "The bungalow has
been the Chopras' holiday home for a
while now. Priyanka loves the idea of
getting up in the morning and soaking in
the sea breeze."
Last month, Priyanka stayed at her
bungalow for nearly 10 days, when she
was in Goa with her team and trainer
Samir Jaura to train for her role in the
upcoming Mary Kom biopic. Jaura has
helped train Farhan Akhtar as well for his role of Milkha Singh.
Priyanka was unavailable for comment.

Aamir Khan initiates fund drive for Uttarakhand flood victims
Aamir Khan has initiated

for the victims of the
Uttarakhand floods. The actor-filmmaker, who has supported such causes
before, started
off with his own donation of 25 lakh. The
collection will be handed over to the PM
Relief Fund on behalf of the Film and
Television Producers' Guild.
So far, the film industry has collected
about 1 crore. Javed Akhtar and Shatrughan Sinha have
donated 50 lakh each from their MP
funds. Shabana Azmi has given 5 lakh
from her NGO while Anupam Kher has
donated 1 lakh through his foundation.
Said Shabana, "More funds are coming in.
So we should be able to manage a
substantial amount."
It may be recalled here that FWICE
(Federation of Western Indian Cine
Employees) and Film and TV Producers'
Guild have announced that the industry is
considering adopting a village, or
supporting the effort to resettle some of the local residents of Uttarakhand who
have been uprooted.
The industry is working on ways to

Ranveer Singh speaks about the intimate scene in Lootera
Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has
thanked his director Vikramadtiya
Motwane to create a comfort zone for
him and his co-star Sonakshi Sinha while
shooting for an intimate scene in
'Lootera'. Giving details about the scene, the actor
said: "Sonakshi is so cool that I never felt
awkward. We all are professional actors
and this is our work.
"Vikramaditya made a closed set for our
comfort where there was only
cameraman, Vikram, me and Sonakshi.
He gave us our own space and was very
supportive."
The actor also said that the director made
it quite clear that for an intimate scene,
the co-stars need to respect each other so
that they can perform.
"It's a private emotion, it is difficult and
the credit goes to the director who was
very supportive. I am thankful to him,"
added Ranveer.
On the other hand, the actor has been in
the news for his link-up with a number of
co-stars and now takes such things with a
pinch of salt.
He said: "Earlier, when I used to read such
stories it used to bother me and I used to think how can they write such things
about me, this is my private life. Then I
realised such things will happen in the
industry, so now I don't even read these
stories."

Deepika Padukone races to the top as top actress in Bollywood
It's official. Deepika Padukone is the ne
Number One. Over the past one year, she
has been inching her way to the top. She
delivered hits like Cocktail and Race 2
(she made an impact even in Desi Boyz
and Housefull). And now she had delivered a monster hit: Yeh Jawaani Ha
Deewani.
In her last few films, Deepika's
performances have been appreciated. Th
improvement is huge. Also, her selection
of films has been interesting. She has
managed to act in two off-beat films
(Karthik Calling Karthik and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey) at the same time she was
doing hardcore masala films, a fine
balancing act that.
Sonam Kapoor, whose debut film
released on the same day as Deepika's,
has had nine releases so far while Dips'
has had 16! Almost twice the number.
While the number of films is hardly a
benchmark, what is impressive is how this Bengaluru girl has managed to cross
the age barrier. She is considered for a
film with Salman Khan (Kick) and grabs
SRK's Chennai Express while successfully
pairing with younger heroes like Ranbir
Kapoor and Imran Khan. She has worked with reputed filmmakers like Imtiaz Ali,
Prakash Jha, Priyadarshan and Ashutosh
Gowariker etc.
But she didn't do it all on her own. She
had some help from the actresses in the
ruling position. Kareena got married last
year, quickly graduating out of the rat
race, like Kajol. Meanwhile, Katrina's last
release (Jab Tak Hai Jaan) was a two- heroine film. She has films like Dhoom 3
and Bang Bang, which are no different
from the ones she has been doing so far.
She is intelligent enough to know it's
time to leave those roles to younger
actresses, and is turning producer next year. Which is perfect for Ms
Padukone. If
you need more argument why Deepika is
in an enviable position today, read on...
The replacement theory: Katrina and
Kareena who have been hogging the No
position for the longest time are now in
their 30s. Fact: Bollywood retires
actresses on the wrong side of 29.
Deepika, in her 20s, is a younger option.
There has been a vacancy for the next-
best-thing since last year. Dippy has
nudged her way there. Kat was Akshay
Kumar's lucky mascot and then Deepika
did Chandni Chowk to China, Housefull 2
and Desi Boyz. Kareena may have the Khan surname but Deepika has Saif on-
screen (Love Aaj Kal, Cocktail and Race 2).
The Ranbir factor: Ranbir Kapoor is the
best thing to have happened to Bollywoo
in the last decade. Every production hous
and every filmmaker wants to work with
RK. Fortunately for Deepika, the
audiences love to see them together onscreen, so she will always be the first
default choice. Ranbir is destined for big
things, and Dips' filmi destiny is tied to
him. the bigger he gets, the bigger she
gets. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is just th
first step.
Hattrick time: What a year for Deepika.
Three of the films that Katrina Kaif
turned down — Yeh Jawaani Hai
Deewani, Chennai Express and Ram Leela
— came to Dips. YJHD has the rare
distinction of being the only romance fil to cross the Rs100-crore mark. And now
she has two more films — Chennai
Express and Ram Leela — which are big
on romance lined up for release in 2013.
Those still in denial about her position
now, will be lining up to herald her at the
new queen by the end of the year.

(Karthik Calling Karthik and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey) at the same time she was
doing hardcore masala films, a fine
balancing act that.
Sonam Kapoor, whose debut film
released on the same day as Deepika's,
has had nine releases so far while Dips'
has had 16! Almost twice the number.
While the number of films is hardly a
benchmark, what is impressive is how this Bengaluru girl has managed to cross
the age barrier. She is considered for a
film with Salman Khan (Kick) and grabs
SRK's Chennai Express while successfully
pairing with younger heroes like Ranbir
Kapoor and Imran Khan. She has worked with reputed filmmakers like Imtiaz Ali,
Prakash Jha, Priyadarshan and Ashutosh
Gowariker etc.
But she didn't do it all on her own. She
had some help from the actresses in the
ruling position. Kareena got married last
year, quickly graduating out of the rat
race, like Kajol. Meanwhile, Katrina's last
release (Jab Tak Hai Jaan) was a two- heroine film. She has films like Dhoom 3
and Bang Bang, which are no different
from the ones she has been doing so far.
She is intelligent enough to know it's
time to leave those roles to younger
actresses, and is turning producer next year. Which is perfect for Ms
Padukone. If
you need more argument why Deepika is
in an enviable position today, read on...
The replacement theory: Katrina and
Kareena who have been hogging the No
position for the longest time are now in
their 30s. Fact: Bollywood retires
actresses on the wrong side of 29.
Deepika, in her 20s, is a younger option.
There has been a vacancy for the next-
best-thing since last year. Dippy has
nudged her way there. Kat was Akshay
Kumar's lucky mascot and then Deepika
did Chandni Chowk to China, Housefull 2
and Desi Boyz. Kareena may have the Khan surname but Deepika has Saif on-
screen (Love Aaj Kal, Cocktail and Race 2).
The Ranbir factor: Ranbir Kapoor is the
best thing to have happened to Bollywoo
in the last decade. Every production hous
and every filmmaker wants to work with
RK. Fortunately for Deepika, the
audiences love to see them together onscreen, so she will always be the first
default choice. Ranbir is destined for big
things, and Dips' filmi destiny is tied to
him. the bigger he gets, the bigger she
gets. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is just th
first step.
Hattrick time: What a year for Deepika.
Three of the films that Katrina Kaif
turned down — Yeh Jawaani Hai
Deewani, Chennai Express and Ram Leela
— came to Dips. YJHD has the rare
distinction of being the only romance fil to cross the Rs100-crore mark. And now
she has two more films — Chennai
Express and Ram Leela — which are big
on romance lined up for release in 2013.
Those still in denial about her position
now, will be lining up to herald her at the
new queen by the end of the year.
Complaint against Salman Khan for posting case information on website
A social activist has filled a local complaint in a local court
seeking action against Bollywood actor Salman Khan for launching a
website with information on the 2002 hit-and-run case involving him,
alleging that it was contempt of court.
According to the complaint, the website, www.Salmankhanfiles.Com, was launched
by the actor recently.
A Mumbai sessions court ruled last month that the actor must be tried
for culpable homicide not amounting for murder in the case -- a
serious charge under IPC which attracts 10 years` punishment in jail.
"When the case is underway and matter sub-judice, how can he use
Internet to spread information about the proceedings?" activist Hemant
Patil asked in his complaint filed yesterday, according to his lawyer
Wajid Khan.
Patil claimed said that the Bandra police station refused to register
a complaint against Salman in this regard and hence he decided to move
the magistrate`s court.
The complaint alleged that Salman is using a website to spread
information about the court proceedings and inviting comments from the
general public when his hit-and-run case and other cases are still
subjudice.
This is also a violation of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971, the
complaint alleged.
The magistrate has accepted Patil`s complaint and scheduled it for
hearing on August 5. Patil has contended that this attempt of actor
may
prejudice the mind of court which has yet not delivered its final
verdict in the case.
The dates of the posts on the website indicate that the website was
being updated from May 2, 2013. The website primarily displays the
bare written orders issued by the Bandra Metropolitan court as well as
the June 24 order of sessions judge UB Hejib, which ordered that
Salman should be retried for the graver charge of culpable homicide
not amounting to murder in the 2002 hit- and-run case.
The June 24 order was a major setback to the actor, who was earlier
tried by Bandra metropolitan magistrate court for a lesser
charge of rash and negligent act causing death, under section 304 A of
IPC. The charge is punishable with two years` imprisonment.
From July 19 onwards, Salman would be tried under section 304 (ii) of
the IPC, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail.
Patil has pointed out the case of Anuja Parbu Desai v/s State of Goa
in which court had made certain observations to maintain the dignity
of the court. This act of the actor is also an attempt to interfere in
the judicial system of the country, he argued.
On September 28, 2002, the actor had allegedly rammed his car into a
bakery shop in suburban Bandra killing one person and injuring four
others.

Salman Khan prepones Sooraj Pancholi’s debut film
Salman Khan, who is launching Sooraj
Pancholi in the remake Hero (1983), has
reportedly preponed the project to
expedite Sooraj's career. Sooraj was in
judicial custody for allegedly abetting
actor Jiah Khan's death.
"Hero was to start in 2014 but will now
start in Nov 2013. Salman has asked the team to start work," a source told a
Mumbai tabloid.
Recently, sources close to the Pancholi
family informed that Salman might
organise a press conference in a few
days' time to clear the air over Sooraj's
debut venture. Aditya Pancholi's 22-year-old
son was granted bail on July 2.
"There have been lots of
conflicting reports concerning
Hero's remake, which also stars
Suniel Shetty's daughter Athiya.
It is being co-produced by
Salman. Now that Sooraj has been given a clean chit by the
court, Salman is considering
clarifying things officially with
the media," says an insider. "In all likelihood, he'll go ahead
with the conference, but things
are yet to be confirmed since he
is busy shooting for Mental in
Hyderabad."
A few days ago, Subhash Ghai,
the co-producer of the remake,
said in a report that the makers
"have not yet confirmed Sooraj
or Athiya" for the film. He also
told HT Café that "Salman will take the final call on this".
Though Salman has remained tight-lipped
about this case so far, on June 2, he
tweeted saying, "Arre haan sooooo happy
that sooraj got bail (sic)." When contacted, Aditya says, "If he
(Salman) is planning a press meet, you
guys (media) will get to know. I can't say
anything about it.

'Barfi!' wins best picture at Indian film awards
Romantic comedy 'Barfi!' swept almost all
the major gongs, including best picture,
at India's answer to the Oscars on
Saturday as Bollywood celebrates its
centenary.
Bollywood royalty converged on the
Chinese gambling hub of Macau for the
14th edition of the Indian International
Film Festival, held in the territory's
glittering Venetian resort.
'Barfi!' won six awards, including the
prize for best actor and best director.
The light-hearted film, about a deaf and
mute man from Darjeeling whose life
revolves around two love interests, stars
Ranbir Kapoor -- the great-grandson of
Prithviraj Kapoor, pioneer of Indian film
and an actor in the silent era of Hindi cinema.
"I don't know how you are feeling, but I
am enjoying every moment of it," the
film's director Anurag Basu said. "People can understand the film because
of less words, it's more visual," he added,
saying Western silent movies had inspired
the film.
'Barfi!' also won best story, best
screenplay and best music direction. Ranbir Kapoor was not in Macau to collect
his award for best actor in a leading role.
Vidya Balan was named best actress in a
leading role for her portrayal of a
pregnant woman on a worldwide search
for her missing husband in thriller
'Kahaani'.
A crowd of thousands in the packed Cotai
Arena sang and applauded as their screen
idols performed on stage with dance
troupes and pyrotechnics.
Earlier, eager fans screamed as
celebrities strode the green carpet,
hoping for the chance to get an
autograph from the likes of megastar
Shah Rukh Khan.
"Just to know we have so many well
wishers and fans overseas, it's great,"
said Abhishek Bachchan, who won best
comic performance for his role in 'Bol
Bachchan'. "I think Bollywood is slowly just
progressively capturing international
attention," said popular Bollywood actress
Amrita Rao, who was wearing a silver
strapless gown.
But it was fan favourite Khan who drove
the crowd into a frenzy as they chanted
his name. "I think it's an amazing platform," Khan
said of IIFA, which he said brought
Bollywood film "all over the world".
Khan shared the stage as host with star
Shahid Kapoor. Indian cinema is thriving commercially

IIFA awards conclude with Bollywood grand-finale

future of Bollywood as well.
The awards focused on a lot of new talent

the industry, rather than just showcasing
performances of veterans.
The performance line up at the celebrity
studded celebration included both
newcomer as well as veterans. Young
actors like Sushant Singh Rajput, Deepika
Padukone, Ayushmann Khurrana and
Parineeti Chopra performed at the main TATA Motors IIFA awards night whereas
stars like Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonu Sood,
Sophie Chaudhary, Arjun Kapoor, Dia Mirza,
Hussain Kuwajerwala and Gauhar Khan
performed at IIFA Rocks.
Talking about the opportunities given to
them by IIFA, Ayushmann Khuranna said
that awards like these boost confidence of
actors like him.
"Award shows for new actors like me give
me the right kind of encouragement. I am
not a big star who will say that these
awards don't matter. I am new to this, I
will also be performing here, which is a big
opportunity for me," he said.
Ayushmann performed to melodious
numbers along with Parineeti Chopra at
the main event. The actress also revealed
that she was always waiting for her chance
to go up on the IIFA stage.
"It is exciting as always. I have said it
before that IIFA was the first one to do it.
They were the reason that Bollywood came
closer to global fans. This time I have been
offered to be on their main stage," she
said.
Not only the performances were youth-
centric, but IIFA also focused on fostering
and cultivating acting talent in the youth
this year with their workshop on acting
with Anupam Kher called "100 years of
Indian cinema: An actor Prepares". The actor conducted interactive
exercises with
the audiences.
Actress Dia Mirza was also all praise for
the new generation of actors. "It is wonderful. I am a huge admirer of
most of them. They come in with the
advantage of so much more preparation.
They are so evolved.
"Their confidence levels are so high. I love
Parineeti, Huma, Richa...Deepika is doing
so well. I feel very good. All these people
are people who even I will want to work
with now...this is the kind of talent which
excites me," she said.
Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit, who has
been a part of the industry for many years,
expressed complete support of the new
comers entering Bollywood. The actress
said that these talented people raise the
bar of the industry. "It is great to have people who are
talented as it raises the standard if our
own movies.... All these new directors...
and the kind of scripts they are getting and
the way the films are made today, is
wonderful," she said.
Singer Sonu Nigam was also in awe of the
opportunities presented to young talent
today. "I see so many new people who after
reality shows, have housefulls. We had to
struggle so much in the 90s. There were
hardly any opportunities. We had to wait
for work. Today, it has changed a lot," he
said during a press conference on the importance of music.
Laying focus on new comers, the hosting at
the event also had a small part where Shah
Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor pretended
to teach some lessons to the newcomers
like Parineeti Chopra, Sushant Singh Rajput
and Ayushmann Khuranna.
The main awards were a truly memorable
experience with the king of Bollywood,
Shah Rukh Khan, and actor Shahid Kapoor
hosting the show in a funny yet unique
way. The best actor award was bagged by
Ranbir Kapoor for Barfi, whereas the best actress award went to Vidya
Balan for Kahaani. Anurag Basu won the best director ward for his film
Barfi.

Irrfan Khan: An actor should be vulnerable before the camera
While his acting skills have brought him appreciation from all quarters
and also a national award, Irrfan Khan
feels an actor should never be too sure of
his work as it helps him better his craft.
"Being an actor is also about being unsure
of things that bring freshness in your
performance, whether it is any role. I have
seen directors being vulnerable, trying to
explore what to do. There is no freshness if
the actors know everything or are too sure of the work," Irrfan said
in an interview
here.
"So I feel one has to be naked and
vulnerable in front of the camera, you
should not know what is going to happen,"
he said.
Irrfan has had a successful run at box
office with films like Paan Singh Tomar and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster
but his concern still remains to keep getting good
work.
"It is heartening that people are
acknowledging you, people think you are
engaging and entertaining them. The
concern is that you keep getting
interesting work and good directors to
work with. It makes you feel nice about yourself and your work," he said.
When asked if he ever fears losing the
stardom, the actor says, "The fear has not
come as I think I have just started. I am
still looking for or waiting for those good
films and roles. When I don't know what
kind of films and roles I want to do, then it could be a fearful situation."
Irrfan is one such actor who did not do the
usual Bollywood stuff and rather created
his own path.
"The industry always responded to work,
but it was me who was looking for
particular kind of roles. I did not have any
kind of path, I was looking to create a path
of my own. And if you wish to do this, then
it will have its own challenges," he added.
Irrfan is looking forward to the release of
Nikhil Advani's D Day , where he plays a RAW agent. The actor insists
that though
in the past several films have had
characters of a RAW agent, but his is
different.
"My role of a RAW agent in D Dayis different and a step ahead of other films.
This is primarily because we have shown
the nuances of that profession in detail.
People will get to know how intelligence
services operate, how they pass
information in a secret and innovative way," he said.
Releasing on July 19, the film also stars
Arjun Rampal, Huma Qureshi, Shruti
Hassan and Rishi Kapoor. Irrfan is also working on Aditya Chopra's
home production Gunday , a romantic thriller, alongside Priyanka Chopra,
Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, but is
tight-lipped about the project. Gundaywill release on February 14 next year.

Kim Kardashian, Kanye West to marry in Egypt?
Rapper Kanye West and his socialite-fiance Kim Kardashian are
reportedly planning to marry at an exotic
location in Egypt.
The couple welcomed their first child,
North West, last month.
"Kim and Kanye were talking to the baby
when in mid-sentence he asked Kim to
marry him. She started to cry and mouthed
the word, 'Yes'," femalefirst.co.uk quoted
a source as saying. "This time she wants something different
and exotic. She likes how Katy Perry and
Russell Brand got married in India with an
Indian-themed wedding. She wants that.
Kim thinks she's the spitting image of
Egyptian goddess Isis, so she has been talking about doing an Egyptian-themed
wedding, at the pyramids," the source said.
"She says Kanye digs the idea too. It will
cost millions to fly everyone to Egypt, but
money is no object," added the source.

Priyanka Chopra shoots for Gunday cabaret song
Actress Priyanka Chopra, who is playing the female lead in period
drama Gunday, is currently shooting for a cabaret dance sequence for
the action-drama-cum-
romance. The film's director Ali Abbas
Zafar says he is using an original song.
Set between 1971 to 1988 in Kolkata, the
film deals with black marketing mafia
men Bikram (Ranveer Singh) and Bala
(Arjun Kapoor).
"We started shooting for the particular
cabaret song three days ago in Mumbai
and there are three more days to do. It's a
fresh cabaret song and not a remix of any
old song. It's a very big sort of cabaret song
in the film," Zafar, who earlier wielded megaphone for Mere Brother Ki
Dulhan, told IANS on Sunday.
Did you ask Priyanka to take reference
from any legendary Bollywood actress for
the song?
"Not really. Actually, I have been doing my
research for quite some time on Kolkata
and I discovered Kolkata was high on
glamour quotient since 1960s, 1970s, and
1980s. In that way, Kolkata is quite
western," said Zafar.
The director has created a coal mine and
informed that the last 30 days of shoot is
left.
"We have created a coal mine set and we
are left to do a huge action sequence
between Irrfan, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer
Singh. Obviously, we can't shoot in real coal
mine so we had to create the set for the
period film," said Zafar.

Sonakshi Sinha: People discouraged me from taking up Lootera
She maybe getting rave reviews for her moving performance in
Vikramaditya Motwane's Lootera but Sonakshi Sinha says she was warned by
many against doing the period film so
early in her career.
Sonakshi started her career with Dabangg and went on to star in masala
movies Rowdy Rathore, Dabangg 2 and Son Of Sardaar. The story of
unrequited love, set in the era
of 1950s, came as a nice challenge for
Sonakshi. She plays a pampered but
devoted daughter of a Bengali zamindaar
who falls in love with a stranger with
dubious past.
"After Dabangg people saw me in a particular kind of cinema. I heard
comments like 'This is too early in your
career', 'You may not be able to pull it off',
'You need to be mature for something like
this'. "I was irritated and decided to prove
everyone wrong. I tried doing something
experimental and I am happy that I was
able to carry it off," Sonakshi told PTI in an
interview.
The actress credits Motwane for bringing
out the best in her and feels without him it
would have been impossible to do the role
of Pakhi.V
"It is my most challenging role till date.
Because it is set in the 1950s, an era I
know nothing about. I have just gone by
pure instinct and Vikram's direction. He is
a tremendous director, I could not have
done it without him. I am so glad that the first opportunity where I
got to showcase
my range as an actor was with Vikram,"
Sonakshi said.
It is another busy year for Sonakshi. After Lootera, she is looking
forward to three more releases - Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai Dobara,
Bullet Raja and Rambo Rajkumar.
The actress says her mantra is to do work
quietly and not make much noise about it.
"I believe in doing my work quietly and not
make a big hullabaloo about it. That is how
I operate. I don't see any other reason to
be visible for, I like it when people talk about my work, that is what
I am here for.
"There is no point being visible for other
things like going for events, parties. I have
never spoken about who I am dating, what
I am doing behind the scenes. So that is
how I want it to be," Sonakshi said. She insists there is a normal life behind
her stardom, which she very much
cherishes. "Coming from a filmy
background I have seen everything
growing up, but even at that point of time
it never really fascinated me. I did not like going to my dad's
shoots. We were taught
not to get carried away with it from a very
young age.
"The upbringing has been very strong,
rooted. My mother gave up her career
bringing us up and she has played a very
important role in keeping us grounded.
Even now I don't take my work home, my
stardom home. It ends where it is supposed to end. There is a life beyond
stardom and its a very normal life which i
cherish. I anyway don't handle attention
very well," she added.
There is constant attention on her figure
but Sonakshi says it does not bother her
anymore. She has decided not to answer
questions related to the topic. "It is a non-issue to me. I am very happy
doing work and lot of work... Probably
more than the skinny-minnies. I am going
to take a stand in my life by not talking
about it, stop answering questions so that
people stop writing about it.
