Vijayakumar and three daughters who
had also acted in Tamil films as heroines.

Manjula made her debut as a supporting
actress in a 1969 film Shanthi Nilayam.
She was seen in her first lead role in
Rickshawkaran (1971).

supporting roles. She has worked with

Ganesan, Kamal Hassan and Rajinikanth.

I want to surprise people, says Arjun Rampal

Arjun Rampal is no longer referred as a
non-actor, thanks to well-acclaimed
films like Rock On, Rajneeti and
Chakravyuh which brought his talent and
versatility to the fore.

The actor believes he has finally found
his space in the industry.

"Everybody wants to surprise people..I
too want to do that. I think films like
Rock On, Rajneeti, Chakravyuh, Inkaar
turned out to be good for me. Prakash
Jha thinks I am the most versatile actor
in the industry. I think I can never say no to him even if he has
two-three lines for
me to say in his film. And so is the case
with Abhishek Kapoor," Arjun told PTI in
an interview here.

From walking the ramp as a model to
winning a national award as an actor,
Arjun has come a long way since his
debut with Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat in
2001. In between were a string of flops
like Dil Ka Rishta, Asambhav, Yakeen and Ajnabee among others.

His breakthrough came with the remake
version of "Don". Thereafter he was part
of successful films like "Rock On" which
fetched him the national award. Then he
teamed up with filmmaker Prakash Jha
for films like Rajneeti, Chakravyuh and upcoming Satyagraha.

His latest release D Day has been
received positively.

"I think I have made a space for myself
in the industry. I think that recognition
has come... otherwise I wouldn't be
getting to play interesting parts. There is
a belief that people have in me today. I
want to create a market for myself, which will engage and entertain people;
they will not be dry and boring," the 40-
year-old actor said.

Arjun feels the time he entered the
industry was the right one, as he learnt a
lot during his ups and downs.

"It takes time when you are an outsider
and don't know industry, don't know
what works and are relying on other
people's opinion. But then you make up
your own mind as what you want to do.
I started discovering that after films like Om Shanti Om, Rock On and Rajneeti
etc.." "These are the kind of films that will
transform and become characters. These
films entertain, participate, engage
people and that for me is entertaining,"
he added.

Arjun is celebrating the success of D Day. "I am relieved. The film
took a slow start
but it was encouraging to see a great
jump over the weekend. I am looking
forward to see how the audience will
react this week as word of mouth is
extraordinary. We did have a special screening for industry people and are
getting positive response," Arjun said.

Nikhil Advani's last few films like Patiala
House, Chandni Chowk To China and
Salaam-e-Ishq bombed at the box-office
but this did not deter Arjun from
working with him. "For Nikhil, to do a film like this was a
challenge...But he was clear what he
wanted and he worked hard for it. He
took interest, gave us all the research
material," he said.

First trailer of Ranbir Kapoor's Besharam to launch at an orphanage

Ranbir Kapoor and Abhinav Kashyap are
all set to launch the first trailer of
Besharam next week.

The makers of the film have opted to
launch the first trailer of the film in an
orphanage instead of a swanky hotel or
a multiplex.

The kids in the orphanage will be the
first ones to watch it.

The makers preferred to have the launch
in a venue related to the storyline of the
film as the Barfi! actor plays the role of
an orphaned thief named 'Pepsi'.

Also, this is the first time that a trailer is
being launched at an orphanage.

Besharam is directed by Abhinav
Kashyap starring Ranbir Kapoor and
Pallavi Sharda in the lead.

The film also satrs Ranbir's parents actors
Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh in pivotal
roles.

Exclusive: Sonakshi and Akshay sizzle the screen

Here's the exclusive picture of the much
talked-about Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi
Sinha club number, Party All Night, from
Boss. Those who have heard the song
swear that it will be one of the year's
hottest club numbers. The song was shot for two days over the weekend. Half of
the song is still to be shot. It presently
also features Yo Yo Honey Singh.
Sonakshi has never done a club song
before, or dressed in an LBD. While the
actress will be seen in Once Upon A Time in Mumbai...Dobaara with Akshay, she
has just a cameo in this film. Also, news
is that the second portion of the song will
be shot in Thailand next month. Along
with Sonakshi, Prabhudheva and a couple
of other big names are expected to be a part of it. Let's wait and watch

Vishal Bhardwaj and Sanjay Leela Bhansali to make films on female gangsters

Years ago, Vishal Bhardwaj had gone to
Sanjay Leela Bhansali with a script about
reincarnation which he wanted Bhansali
to direct. That film never happened. But
now both the distinguished filmmaker's
destinies are joined in a strange way. They both are all set to direct films on
two different female gangsters based on
the same source material.

Both the filmmakers have secured
filmmaking rights from chapters out of S.
Hussain Zaidi's bestseller about female
gangsters Mafia Queens Of Mumbai.
While Vishal Bhardwaj would soon be
making a film based on Zaidi's account of Ashraf Khan alias Sapna, the gangster
whose only mission in life is to eliminate
her husband's killer Dawood, Sanjay
Leela Bhansali would be directing a film
based on the life and crimes of female
gangster Gangubai Kothewali, the dreaded female crime lord who is known
as 'The Madame of Kamathipura'.

Interestingly, both the films on female
gangsters by Bhansali and Bhardwaj are
expected to go on the floors at the same
time next year.

Says our source, "Bhansali is as
fascinated by Gangubai's life as
Bhardwaj is by Ashraf Khan. The
important thing is the principal casting.
Both the directors have gone into other
projects before taking on Hussain Zaidi's female gangsters' stories because
they're still searching for the right
actress. In the next couple of months,
they would crack the casting."

In the meanwhile, another filmmaker
Shashi Ranjan is already halfway
through his bio-pic on another female
gangster Archana Sharma. Ranjan
confirms he is shooting Sharma's story
with Mahima Chowdhary in the lead.

Not directing Kahaani 2, clarifies Kundan Shah

For the director of Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, one of the most brilliant
social satires of Indian cinema, it comes as an
embarrassing shock to be accused of
muscling into Sujoy Ghosh's territory to
direct the sequel to Kahaani 2. He denies all the rumours.

"Why would I want to make Kahaani 2? That's Sujoy Ghosh's domain," said Shah.

"I think he did a brilliant job in Kahaani. The way he recreated the bustle and
tension of Kolkata was amazing. I don't
think any other director could do justice to
the Kahaani brand," he added.

Made on a budget of Rs.8 crore, Kahaani, centred around Vidya Balan's character,
did a business of Rs.75 crore at the ticket
window.

Explaining how he became embroiled in
the unsavoury controversy, Shah said: "I
went to producer Jayanti Gada with a
woman-oriented subject. It was his idea
to name it Kahaani 2 as he says the rights and title are with him. But I am not
comfortable with this at all.

"Why should I claim any creative right
over the Kahaani franchise? It's Sujoy's baby. I'd like the producers
to patch up
with Sujoy and make Kahaani 2, Kahaani 3, etc with Sujoy. I'd like to
be left out of this."

Describing his next film as political satire,
Shah revealed that just like his first film,
there is a dead body in this one.

"I know Satish Shah's corpse act in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro is still
remembered. But what can I do if a dead body popped up in this
one too?"

While Shah clams up on more information
on his new film, one learns it is titled Masquerade, which he was
supposed to make with Mallika Sherawat in the lead.
But now the producers will cast a new girl
in the lead.

Reacting to reports suggesting that Shah
would take off the Kahaani legacy, Ghosh said: "No one can make
Kahaani 2 without my consent. I will direct a sequel that
would hopefully respect and honour the
love that people showed to Kahaani. I am here only to make films and
not to defend
my creation against poaching."

He is not worried about Kahaani being taken away. "It's mine. Why
should I react to some
baseless report claiming someone else is
making Kahaani 2. The only thing that bothers me is that my mother in Kolkata
reads such stuff and gets upset. She will
get used to it."

Prakash Jha: Not judgemental about Anna Hazare's movement

Denying reports that his forthcoming film Satyagraha has resemblance
to Anna Hazare's movement
against corruption, director Prakash Jha
said that he is not trying to be
judgemental about the social activist's
movement.

Jha also said that he drew inspiration for
the film from the mass protests around the
world.

According to reports, Anna's camp
members said the film has resemblances to
Anna's movement against corruption and
they have also pointed out resemblance
between real people and the characters in
the political thriller.

"Anna Hazare's movement mobilised
common people. In my film, the movement
and its logic is completely different. I'm
not trying to be judgemental about Anna
Hazare's movement, and I don't want
anyone to be judgemental about my film," Jha said in a statement.

"Any suspicion linking with Hazare's
movement is uncalled for. But there is
nothing I can do about that," he added.

The film, set to hit the screens on August
30, features Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay
Devgn and Kareena Kapoor in the lead
roles.
