When Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra
announced 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' with Farhan Akhtar, not many were
sure too if he would be able to pull it
off. After all, he is a pucca Bombay
boy.
Since Divya Dutta, who plays his sister
in the film, is a Punjabi, one wonders
if she had to step in at times to ensure
that Farhan was doing it all perfectly
right, as far as playing a Sikh was
concerned?
"Since I belong to that culture, I was
very comfortable portraying a Sikh
woman," says Divya, "Yes, when he
was signed for the film then many did
wonder if he was the right choice.
However everyone would be quiet now because he has truly excelled in
the part."
She continues, "When I saw him on
the sets, he was out there running,
training and working hard. He used to
be the first one to get up and hit the
gym. He came with total homework
and was absolutely ready when we began shooting. He worked extra hard
on his role."
Meanwhile personally for Divya as
well, these have been great times
indeed. After delivering a sensitive
and balanced performance in Karan
Johar's 'Gippi' earlier this year, Divya
Dutta is returning to the big screen with 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'. Oh yes,
she did have a 'blink and you would
miss' role in last week's 'Lootera' but
we will let that pass!
Now one does expect that Rakeysh
Omprakash Mehra, who had given her
a key role to play in his last 'Delhi 6',
has reserved something special for
Divya in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'.
Smiles Divya, "It is a great feeling
when someone believes in you and
picks you for something that is
different from the herd mentality.
Otherwise after 'Veer Zaara' I was
flooded with offers to play a vivacious Punjabi girl. So much so that
I was frustrated and was sick of
saying 'No'. This is where Rakeysh
came to me and said that I had to do
'Delhi 6'. It was a game changer."
Well, now that the film has already hit
the screens, it is time for audience to
pass it's verdict.
